My Story

Hi everyone! This is Dusty...and my name is Teri. I am Dusty's foster mom. Dusty was an "owner turn-in" at Medina County Animal Shelter. The shelter has been such an amazing support to our cause of rescuing these guys on their last day, which is the reason Dusty is here with us today. However, I'd like you to know a little bit about Dusty. He is a 60 pound lab mix around 2 or 3 years of age. His lifelong name is truly Dusty. He knows basic commands like "sit", "shake", and appears to know the command "go lay down". He is calm inside and is one of the most gentle dogs I've ever fostered. He is good with other dogs (it only took us about an hour to have him totally submerged into a 4 dog house) and is gentle with both the adult cats and kittens running around my home. He is completely potty trained. Dusty is beautiful on a leash and is probably a good candidate for boundary training. He is what we call a "turn-key" dog because his behaviors are wonderful. The only thing that we must work on is getting his nails trimmed as they have been neglected and the dewclaws are curling up and growing into the pads of his feet. The story that was given to us is that the family "just didn't have enough time" for this boy. I must admit that I love this work of saving lives and I love seeing animals thrive under our care. However, I'd like you to look deep into this young boy's eyes and see the confusion, fear, and heartbreak that he went through when being turned in. This face picture was taken just hours after pulling him from his 7 day stay at the shelter, taking him straight from the shelter to a vet office foreign to him, driving in a car for 2 hours while other animals were being dropped off, and then being introduced into a new home. As a foster mom, the hardest part is getting them through that period of time when they have no control over their own lives. The most amazing part is building that trust that there will be someone waiting to love them. Can you be this home? If you have any questions regarding this wonderful dog, please feel free to call me at 330-635-5787. Dusty will make such a loving addition to your family!
