My Story

Animal Profile: Puppy is a 6 month old Terrier mix puppy who will be joining us along with 5 siblings from San Joaquin California. These dogs have been held in outdoor kennels at a Waste Treatment Facility in San Joaquin Valley. Temperatures are now over 100 degrees and these dogs sit and wait for help to arrive. This "shelter" has no website, no adoptions, and no resources. We were asked to help so they will be joining us on June 16th. We will share more info as we get to know them in foster care. Foster Update Duke is settling right in! Duke is making up for all that time waiting in a kennel, he's a massive cuddle bug and so excited to be part of a home. Duke likes to get his toys out of the toy bin and bring each one to you, and carries them around everywhere. He gets the wiggles and 'talks' when he's really excited. We've taken him out to semi crowded outdoor areas and he's very calm, and settles down to hang out. He really loves to go on walks, the longer the better. He is surprisingly calm on walks and has taken all the new city sounds and sights in stride. He's been doing really well so far in his crate at night, but does show signs of anxiety when he's left alone that we are working on. Duke just had his neuter and is fully recovered and ready to go. He loves his people and has been friendly with humans, dogs, and cats. He's very respectful with our senior dog and play wrestles with our younger large dog. He's got a lot of energy and needs to have a home that can provide him with sufficient exercise every day. He's very intelligent and learns quickly. He would do well with a family who could provide him with training, structure and consistency. We think that having a resident dog in the home will help him with his confidence, but he could do well as a single dog in the right home. He loves and plays well with kids, he's met kids 2-5. We are looking for a home with a securely fenced yard an Shepherd/large breed experience is preferred. He hasn't grown much since we have had him, we think he may end up 40lbs or under. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, negative heartworm test if over 6 months, and health certificate. Your donation may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization.
