My Story

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: ~8 years (as of 06/01/24) Weight: 78 lbs (as of 7/18//24) Location: RI Donald is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states. This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Hello, friend! I'm Donald Duck, a wise old soul with a heart full of love. I'm a bit on the chunky side, but that just means there's more of me to love! I'm as sweet as a summer peach, always ready to greet you with a friendly wag. I've got a gentle spirit and I'm pretty smart too. I've learned a lot in my years, like how to sit and stay, and how to give the best cuddles. I love to go on leisurely strolls and smell the flowers. My foster mom said I am a dream on the leash. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will always be by your side, then I'm your guy. Adopt me, and let's start our forever journey together. Donald lived in a shelter for 5 years and is adjusting well to home life. Donald is housetrained and does well in his crate. He has also been left alone in the home for several hours without any destruction. He can be playful but is very happy to lounge on the couch. He would make a great walking buddy, although he is working on his stamina. He loves to play with the other resident foster dog and would do well in a home with another dog or as an only. Donald is a sweet guy who deserves a home of his own. Donald's story: He was abandoned at our southern partner's vet clinic in 2019 and has been living in a loving shelter ever since. Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog's health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. Donald's adoption donation is partially sponsored in loving memory of Nina Northrop. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
