My Story

Diego is being fostered Maine!

Little (8 lb.) Diego has a huge personality. In another life, he might have been a general or a CEO because he sure likes to play leader. If the other dogs go for it, he loves to be top dog in the pack, but he must have learned good doggie citizenship at some point in his 5 years, because he does play well with other pooches.

Diego's personality is so engaging that he's charmed his foster dad who was, prior to fostering Diego, a large dog lover. Not any more.....Diego has shown his foster dad that little dogs are "real dogs" too!

Diego has been able to go to work with his new foster dad, and everyone there enjoys his company. He is so tiny that they pull a drawer out for him at work, place the dog bed there, and he's a happy camper.

Diego knows a few basic commands like "come" and "stay." He behaves nicely on a leash, and although he's a low to medium energy dog, Diego really enjoys his twice daily walks.

He is house trained. He has not be crated in his foster home, and seems to do fine without it.

Because Diego is very tiny, he should go to a home without very young children. They tend to make him nervous.

He would do best in a calmer household, ideally with someone who is around a lot. Another canine companion would be a big bonus.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $350 for puppies up to 6 months of age, $300 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $275 for dogs 5 years and older. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Adele at lonepine_ahr@yahoo for this particular dog. Click HEREto visit our site.
