My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Dex, 3 month old, intact male, American Staffordshire Terrier, 20 pounds. Dex is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Adult male pitbulls weigh 40-65 pounds when fully grown. Puppies are placed on a spay/neuter contract until 6 months old, when they are able to be altered and their adoption finalized. Puppies this age also require someone who is home more than they are away as being crated for long periods of time is not conducive to their growth. If you are gone more than 4hrs at a time, you need to have a plan ready for their care in your absence. Dex and his brother, Bobby, were abandoned in an apartment lot, observed by the residents being forcibly dragged out of the truck and dumped before their "owner" sped off leaving the puppies to fend for themselves. The boys, covered in fleas and malnourished, waited there until help intervened. Thankfully, due to fosters stepping up, we were able to save both boys and change the course of their fate. Dex lives in a home with resident and foster dogs all his size or bigger (10-15lbs up to 40lbs), and is very active, as you would expect from a young pup. He enjoys wresting and playing, and can sometimes be too much for the older resident dogs, although the other foster and Dex get along like gangbusters. He takes redirection well and knows when to settle down or leave his siblings alone, and continues to improve on reading their cues every day. Dex is still learning leash and house skills, and his new home should be willing to continue investing time and training in these areas. He's not had much experience on the leash and still darts around like a little madman when first leashed up, but he does settle down into an easy walk after some time. He's not yet house trained but does use potty pads and will not poop in the house. He follows the lead of his canine siblings and goes outside to potty, but does still have regular accidents in the house that crating helps. Dex is crated when his foster is at work and at night, and does well overall. Dex is fed away from the other dogs not because he is food aggressive but because he's a voracious eater and will sneak away to steal the other's food. He loves treats and toys, and is a good sharer. His foster mom describes him as very affectionate, super smart, playful and silly, and independent and curious. He does not need another dog in the home but should have plenty of opportunities - whether play dates, dog parks or doggy day care - to continue his positive socialization. His ideal home would have kids to chase him around and cuddle when he's ready for naps and be fairly active. He will need lots of physical and mental stimulation to burn off that puppy energy and ensure he does not develop any bad habits due to boredom. We have no history with cats, but Dex has been around his foster's young (3yo) grandchild and did excellent - no jumping or nipping, just sweet affection and respect for their respective sizes. In general, we recommend homes with kids over the age of 10yrs or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
