My Story

Meet Derek! This pup is super sweet, would NEVER hurt a fly, but he doesn’t know how to be a dog and is scared of new experiences and people. If you are looking for that “Hard to place” dog who’s sitting in a shelter that nobody ever wants to adopt…. THIS IS THE ONE! Dogs like Derek are by far the most rewarding to adopt as you get to help them gain confidence and learn to trust humans again! You are going to take home a scared dog that doesn’t know what to do with himself, and end up with a dog that’s stuck to you like glue and follows you everywhere! You will Watch him grow and flourish in your care as he tries new things and learns how to “Dog”. Derek’s ideal home would be one that has other dogs that he can learn the ropes from and follow around, with a securely fenced in yard that he can’t escape if he has a moment of fear in the first few weeks while he adjusts. He needs a patient home that understands that he will EVENTUALLY be your best friend but it may take a few weeks to fully feel comfortable in your home and presence. Derek has never shown any aggression towards humans or other dogs (although we don’t recommend a home with cats as we don’t know what he would do with those) Because of his fearfulness we think he needs a home with adults only, for the time being, as kids will only add to the initial fear and that will make it harder for him to adjust. Derek is scheduled to be fixed, he is up to date on all vaccines, dewormed, and he is microchipped. However, he will need to undergo Heartworm treatment once he is settled into his new home. We will pay for the entire treatment and schedule everything around your timeline, all you will have to do is administer oral meds 2x a day for 30 days, and get him to 3 vet appointments of the course of 90 days, at our vet in Holland Michigan. If that schedule sounds like too much, we do offer a version of heartworm treatment called “Slow-Kill”, that wouldn’t require traveling back to our vet, but it does take longer to treat this way. Derek is crate trained, and seems to also be potty trained! ***This pets adoption fee has been sponsored, meaning there is no cost to adopt them from us!*** To inquire about adopting this special, but shy boy, please send us an email, or follow the prompts through petfinder to fill out an application!
