Denali

Denali is a young male less than 2 years old. He weights around 80 to 100 lbs and was saved from enthanasia. As you can see from his picture he is a very pleasant dog. The San Luis Valley where our shelter is is mountain valley is much like Tibet and has a Tibetan monastery and a number of people have tibetan mastiffs which are well suited to this climate. Tibetan Mastiff perhaps mixed with Shepherd is our best guess as to what Denali is. The first picture is Denali. The Tibetan Mastiff also known as Do-khyi (variously translated as "home guard", "door guard", "dog which may be tied", "dog which may be kept"), reflects its use as a guardian of herds, flocks, tents, villages, monasteries, and palaces. In nomad camps and in villages, the Do-khyi is traditionally allowed to run loose at night and woe be unto the stranger who walks abroad after dark. Like all flock guardian breeds, they are an intelligent, strong-willed, powerful breed, obedience training is recommended. Socialization is also critical with this breed because of their reserved nature with strangers and guardian instincts. They are excellent family dogs. The Cane Corso Mastiff is believed to have descended from the old Roman war dogs. The Cane Corso Mastiff is very devoted and does make a lovely companion. This breed is a fearless family protector. The Cane Corso Mastiff has a very balanced temperament, and makes a great family pet. He is very dependable around children in his family, but can be protective around others. Due to the size and power of these dogs they should be supervised around small children. The Cane Corso Mastiff can live in peace with cats and other dogs. Available for adoption now.
