ADopted! 10-18-09 Thank you Brian of Hayden ID !*****************************************************************UPDATE 10-17-09. Daphne's foster mom has made HUGE strides with her socialization, as you can see from the video, and her aggression. She is almost a normal dog now!! She still can approach too quickly, and that can lead to another dog being defensive, but she's learning! She has been introduced to cats, and is just fine with them now. She's put on weight and muscle, and looks fabulous. She's doing incredibly well health wise, as long as we don't deviate from her high quality kibble, which is Canidae, and she does eat two 40# sacks a month, so you can expect about $80 a month in kibble food bill. She must NOT be fed table scraps or low quality dog food. Her obedience skills have improved, and she's really just a NICE dog now. They spaying, (hormone leveling), seems to have helped immensely too. ********************************************************************************************************************** In 4-1-09. Owner surrender. 26 mo. old purebred, papered English Mastiff. NICE girl to people, 140#'s, excellent with the two little girls, Siamese cats, and two female Cocker Spaniels she's been raised with, BUT can be VERY aggressive to other dogs she doesn't know when in the hands of an inexperienced handler. Also, is not TOTALLY trustworthy with "her" cats, and there is concern that she would do them harm if unsupervised. She IS good with MOST small dogs she meets, but is VERY aggessive with dogs bigger than, say, a Cocker Spaniel. She bites first and asks later.... NOT TO be played down. It will take some supreme supervision and training to desensitize her, IF it can even be done. DOES behave and respond very well to a experienced handler and meets/greets strange dog with very little problem. HOWEVER, she cannot be trusted to behave around other dogs, without strict supervision, so a home without another dog is being sought at this time. We would consider certain circumstances, where another dog is involved, as long as it's a non-aggressive, SMALL dog. She could really care less about most every small dog she's ever met, say Cocker Spaniel size and below. Behind a 4' fence is where she's lived, and she hates it. She's taken to jumping over to go find something to do. She PREFERS to be an indoor all the time dog, matter of fact, former owner states she'd be the ultimate apt. dog, as she's just happy as a bug in a rug sleeping away the day on the couch. She doesn't chew anything inside, but has chewed the hoses and deck in her former home's backyard. She is totally housebroke and crate trained. She has some basic obedience training, and is exceptionally well mannered, IF you are the boss. EXPERIENCED Mastiff or similar GIANT BREED people only please. PLEASE, apply ONLY if you have owned, for the dog's lifetime, a Mastiff. Screening will be stringent, as it should be with a dog of this size and strength and damage capability. ****************************************************************FROM THE FORMER OWNER: a big gentle giant but full of energy and needs a lot of positive attention. She is coming from a four dog family, where she was #4. So she really would like to be #1 with someone. Loves to be inside and is very well behaved with a big, huge dog bed that she knows is hers. She also likes to sleep in a big huge dog kennel and needs a big huge dog house when she is outside. All of these things are necessary. She is a loud snorer. She is scared to travel in a truck/car, but will with a little coaxing. She really doesn't like to leave home. Even when she breaks out she comes right up to the front door and waits for us to get back. Ok with cats but I wouldn't trust her totally (like both of them left inside together) If she knows you she is overly friendly and her tail will destroy anything on your coffee table or lower shelves. Her head is basically level with the counter tops, so beware of food left there. Although she does know "out of the kitchen" and will go lay on her bed. She will also not beg for food while eating in front of her, although the drool will start if she smells it?!!!! She is basically a dry mouth except when eating or drinking. She drinks a ton of water and is not allowed to drink in the house, it is really a mess if she does. She needs a full bucket of water at all times and seriously will get it everywhere. Just things potential homes need to know..... She will also fence fight and seem really scary behind a fence, protecting her property. She was 2 in december, so she is really 2 yrs, 4 months already. Text book coloring. oh yeah great for her baths and nails, will let you totally blow dry her with a power dryer if needed. Will walk right into the tub.
