My Story

He is not getting the lovin' he needs. He is becoming shy and dejected. We are afraid he will soon begin to become despondant.

Hi there, I'm Dallas. I am an interesting mix of Basenji and maybe Cattle Dog, and quite a handsome guy, don't you think? I came to be here at Animal Haven, when my old owners abandoned me and my puppies all alone at our old house. They were thoughtful enough to leave some cans of dog food, but for some reason I couldn't quite get the hang of the can opener...go figure.

I am a little shy at first meeting, but quickly warm up and do a little dance of joy for your entertainment. Like most Basenji's I am not a big barker, but I have a great big smile to bestow on those I know. I may have lived with children in the past, but after all I have been through I think very small active children may make me a little nervous, though I think I would like respectful children just fine. I do like other dogs, but am not crazy about sharing my food bowl...you would feel the same way if you had been abandoned without food I'll bet.

I am a really smart guy, and though I enjoy the company of all my dog friends here at the shelter, I would love a new family that could give me the love and attention I crave. What do you think, could it be yours?
