UPDATE: 2/13/24
DALILAH got her second heartworm treatment injection today. Her doctor always comments on how amazing she looks compared to the first day we brought her in. She did great! (Of course we've started bringing Churu slow-feed tube pouches to distract during procedures, and they work wonderfully!) We came home with another Sympirica, prednisone, gabapentin, same as last time.
She gets one more injection tomorrow, and that should be it!! We will wait several months for her to recover from both the heartworms and the stressful treatments, and then we will vaccinate, spay, and microchip. #DalilahTails
DALILAH is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! We are taking applications to possibly line up someone for foster-to-adopt until she is able to get spayed and her last heartworm check.

__________
Meet DALILAH. This "used up" breeder was found chained to a fence in Stockton, emaciated, covered in flies and fleas and dried blood, and struggling to walk and breathe.
After taking some time to gain her trust, we took her to an after-hours vet to make sure she had no urgent healthcare issues and got some antibiotics for her skin. Turns out she has the worst case of fleas I have ever seen. Even after the dose of Capstar from the vet and a very thorough wash and rinse while she just sat there with her head on my knee and let the fleas wash away in masses, she still had hundreds of them crawling around and trying to get off of her.
We will trim her nails and dose her with a longer-term flea medication and some dewormer, which is likely what has caused her distended belly and maybe her malnutrition, almost certainly anemia. We'll schedule her for our intro vet package (thorough health check, vaccinations, microchip), get some x-rays to determine why she has trouble walking, keep her inside for a while so the flies don't go back at it, get her on a regular diet, and hopefully she will be feeling and looking like herself... maybe for the first time ever.
#DalilahTails.
