This darling girl is Cupcake, who is 9 weeks old as of this writing (8/22).
As cutesy names go, we think you'll agree with us that Cupcake is off the charts. Therefore, the dog who merits this name really has to be firing on all cylinders, and this little girl is no disappointment.
Cupcake is a country girl who came into our care along with her littermates (nicknamed the Crumpets) when her original family couldn't find a home for her. She was one of an unplanned litter -- mom was unspayed and dad was the golden retriever next door -- but although unwanted, in many ways Cupcake has had all the advantages.
Her first advantage, although definitely not the most important, is the most striking, so we will address it first. She is preposterously, outrageously and possibly illegally cute. She brings to mind a teddy bear with her soft reddish-auburn fur, large head, round tummy, triangle nose and sparkling button eyes. Her sturdy little rear legs in particular bring to mind the jointed legs of a Steiff bear. There is a drollness and character to her expressions in real life that her pictures do not reflect, but trust us when we say that her adopter(s) will marvel at Cupcake's adorably furrowed brow when she is thinking, her twinkling eyes when she is playing and her exaggerated, tumbling way of playing.
Her second, and more important advantage, is her wonderful personality -- a thoughtful friendliness that combines the best of both breeds. She is loyal, intelligent and fastidious like a Chow Chow (she is making amazing strides in her housebreaking), while her golden retriever father has clearly passed on some of his friendly, responsive nature.
Her third advantage is that her life to date has been a healthy and happy one. She spent her early weeks with her mother and siblings in a home environment, and when she came into foster care, she received further socialization in a family home where she regularly interacts with adults, other dogs and school-age children. In other words, she has seen only the best of life and of humans, and the home that adopts her will see all the benefits of this.
