My Story

Cricket is a young and very sweet Dachshund who was rescued from a puppy mill in Arkansas where dogs and puppies are bred in horrendous conditions by cruel and irresponsible breeders. The dogs that live in puppy mills suffer from chronic health problems, live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, and don’t receive adequate food, water or veterinary care. The breeding dogs and their puppies tend to be housed in extremely cramped conditions, often exposed to the elements. Females are sometimes forced to breed every time they are in heat to increase profits, resulting in gradually decreasing sizes of litters. To make matters worse puppy mill dogs are weaned from their mothers well before the eight to ten weeks that is normally recommended. Dogs in puppy mills are often bred indiscriminately. While the puppies produced may come with pedigrees, the pedigree itself is neither an indication of quality nor authenticity. Cricket is active, playful, and very loving. She likes to lay in your lap and be petted. She already knows how to use her doggie door, and is coming along nicely on her housebreaking. Cricket is full vetted (spayed, and all shots). Cricket is independent rescue supported by DogsOnly, and so will not be attending the DogsOnly adoption showings, but if you would like to learn more or even meet her you can send an email to her rescuers, Bob and Ursula, at [email protected]. You can also complete an online adoption application by clicking the links at the top or bottom of her official bio page located at www.dogsonly.org/451pop.html or send an email to [email protected]. Your application or emails will be sent to Cricket's guardians without delay. All of our young and adult dogs require a 2 week home visit before finalizing the adoption process. This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times. All DogsOnly foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. None of the DogsOnly fosters have cats in their homes so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats. We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found. DogsOnly relies solely on donations and is a 501(c)3 Humane Society. Our mission is to rescue dogs that most other groups are not interested in due to their size, breed, age, health or other various reasons, and to provide education resources for dog owners and those with an interest in the wellbeing of dogs. DogsOnly believes that no dog should be left behind. Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs die. Why Buy When You Can Save? Save a Rescued Dog. If you don't find that special companion you are looking for in the DogsOnly rescue, rehabilitation, and re-home program then please visit Last Chance Arkansas or one of the many other central Arkansas rescue organizations to save a rescued canine companion.
