My Story

RED BEAR IS LOCATED IN HUNTINGBURG, IN. Please reach out to his owners directly for additional information. Looking for a loving forever home for Red! Red Bear has been with us since he was 7 weeks old. He is a 1.5 year old, 45 lb, red tri Australian Shepherd that we believe has some unfriendly genes. Red got his name from our favorite place, Red River Gorge, KY. He is a snuggly, energetic, and loyal boy and needs a home that is willing to spend time on training and patiently work with him to help him reach his fullest potential. He is crate trained, housebroken, neutered, and up to date on vaccines and boosters with records. He is also on three months flea and tick prevention. Red has had some reactive behavior that started developing around 6 months of age. He is not a fan of new people but loves everyone he spent lots of time with when he was young. He does have a bite history of a neighbor passing by and has had issues with male dogs, but never a female. He LOVES to be chased by his cousin Daisy dog and has played with many other girl dogs in the neighborhood. He would do best being the only male dog, in an active, country living family! I feel he would thrive in a home where he can spend a lot of time outside. He loves to hike and run around in creeks. Digging in sand is also really fun! He is a super sweet boy, but does not enjoy when people come over, so he will need training on those situations. He has become defensive of his crate when a person outside our family walks near too. I am more than happy to work with whoever is committed to adopting him and has the time, on choosing the best trainer. Red loves his family. He loves to play ball (or good boy chuck it as he knows it), run around outside (he will need a physically fenced in yard. We have done off leash training since he was a pup, but with his reactivity I would not recommend it anymore), snuggle as if he's a small lap dog, and eat his good boy food. Just ask him yourself if he is hungry, his answer for us is a typical wiggle butt aussie. He knows sit, down, stay, leave it, spin, bear cub, hungry, ice cube, rollover (mostly), walk, crate (crate and place are interchangeable in his mind), chuck it, car ride, up, off, and he recently picked up on "bring me your Kong" (peanut butter is yummy). Red has done okay with our one month old son with some positive reinforcement, but will ultimately do best in a home without children since their energy/eye contact is a trigger for him. I highly recommend that his forever family start him out with professional training to help him be the best he can be. He has been almost everywhere with us since he was a puppy. We traveled in our camper the first 2 months we had him and are on the go constantly. He always wants to be with us, but because of his reactivity we have had to start leaving him home. He is a working breed, and he wants to please, but he needs someone with patience, consistency, and love. Professional training will be most helpful to socialize him and work on reactivity. Ultimately I feel Red has A TON of potential and will be a wonderful companion, but he needs a serious owner with lots of time to be dedicated in solid training and loads of love! We love him very much and are searching for a new home for his safety as well as our families. Please reach out with any questions. He will come with the items that he knows.
