My Story
Courage—his name says it all and, there is an abundance of good things to say about this boy! Courage has an easy-going, pleasing personality, and as his name suggests, he has the firmness of mind and will to face danger, opposition, and withstand hardship, and still come out on top. How his story began… he was purchased with a female to be used for breeding, the owner couple broke up, and Courage and his mate (Cruella) ended up on a farm in a kennel with one meal a day and a doghouse for shelter. Of course, she became pregnant, so rescue was contacted for help and today both are safe and learning what it means to be protected, loved, and treated as the special dogs they are. Courage is enjoying life, from running and playing with the other dogs, to getting brushed, petted and lots of attention from his person. He has learned to walk on a leash, jump up in the car for a ride and will sit for a treat and come when he is called. He is very friendly with all the dogs and is ever-so-gentle with the cats, who he loves to sniff as they rub all over his face and between his legs. A secure fence is a must as this boy has the typical PYR personality and truly enjoys going out to patrol his yard telling all he is on duty. This handsome boy has a great demeanor, loves to explore - inside and out - and will fit into most situations if it includes love, patience, and attention and plenty of praise, pets, and treats! Courage promises to hold true to his name and watch over his family, keeping everything safe, and be your best friend for life!

Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
