Cotton is a spectacular young Great Pyrenees mix who was rescued from a shelter just before she was scheduled to be euthanized. Unfortunately, as much as her rescuers have come to adore her, they don’t have the time or the means to take care for such a large canine companion. As much as it hurts to let her go, the best thing to do is to find her a home and family that has experience with big dogs, and has adequate time and the means necessary to give her the best home and life she deserves. She will definitely require a spacious and secure yard.
Although Cotton is only 7 to 8 months old she has already grown very large. Described as affectionate, very playful and curious, she likes to race with you, but be careful when she catches up because she tends to knock you over. She requires love and attention daily. When you are away from her for long periods of time, she shows signs of having missed you. She'll show affection by laying on your foot and leaning against you. Cotton is just a precious canine companion, and is very bright as well. Her rescuer was able to teach her to sit, shake, and lay down within minutes, and she likes to shake hands. She’s always very grateful for the occasional doggie treat and enjoys those big tasty bones. Cotton is playful, and likes to pounce and wrestle occasionally, although this is another reason why she would not be a good candidate for a family with small children. She'll fetch for a little while until she gets bored. Cotton is leash trained, but because she is such a large breed dog, it could require strength to be able to control her if she is distracted during walks. Her favorite thing to do is to go walking at the park, and she loves exploring places like as Devil's Den. Cotton would not do well in an apartment lifestyle setting. She requires regular exercise/walking.
Cotton apparently gets along with other dogs and even cats. Due to her size it is not recommended that so go to a home with small children because she could easily knock them over during play. Her rescuer and foster believes she would most likely do well in a ranch type environment where she has the space to roam. It is likely that due to the nature of Great Pyrenees and as Cotton comes to see her home as her territory she may become protective and prowl. If she is outside you should expect the occasional warning bark at night time as she guards her home.
Medically Cotton currently seems very healthy and is at a good weight for her age. She is leash trained, but she is still young and occasionally can get distracted. She was crate trained when she first came home from the pound, but due to her size now, she has mainly become an outdoor dog and sleeps in a garage at night. When she was first rescued it was discovered that Cotton had Parvo, however she was treated by a vet, and has made a complete recovery. Currently she is completely up do date on all her shots including rabies.
