Head Turner and Gentle Giant in one dog!
Meet Cornbread! Cornbread is fostered in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see information below in “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section).
“Fur-st Impressions” are very important! Schedule a meet and greet with Cornbread before applying to see if he is the perfect fit for your family by emailing us at
[email protected]. A completed Adoption Application will be required after the meet and greet to move forward with Cornbread’s adoption.
Cornbread is a stunning 4-year-old mixed breed with beautiful brindle coloring. He is currently 108 lbs., and our fosters are working on getting his weight down to a healthier 93 lbs. With his floppy ears and goofy grin, Cornbread oozes southern charm. DNA test results on one of his siblings came back German Shepherd, Norwegian Elkhound, White Swiss Shepherd, Pit Bull Terrier, and boxer. His size agrees with those results, but he would be the lowest energy shepherd mix ever. Cornbread is easygoing, chill, and loving; his perfect day would consist of a nap, cuddles with people, a walk (while not a marathoner, he does get excited about getting the chance to go for some outside adventures), some play time with his dog friends, and maybe a little Netflix before bed. Cornbread makes friends easily; he was playing with the foster’s resident dog within minutes of arriving in Spokane and he does well with the cats, too. Cornbread would do best with children older than 10.
Cornbread’s adopters had to move in with extended family in CA when their situation in Washington changed. Cornbread was returned to us because he nipped a child out of excitement. He did not puncture skin or cause any injury other than bruising. Unfortunately, family members made it clear he could not remain, and his adopters drove him from Southern CA back to Spokane so he could find a new home. Since Cornbread has been back with the Rescue, we have worked with him on manners and fostering a calm state of mind, and he has responded fabulously. In fact, we have found that Cornbread is a beta dog and a gentle giant without an ounce of aggression in him. He just needed someone to reinforce some structure.
Cornbread has plenty of skills in his repertoire. He is potty trained, crate trained, sleeps through the night, and cherishes his naps. He has his basic obedience commands down well (including kennel, which he knows means to go into his crate) and has good recall skills. Cornbread has allergies, which we are addressing with our proven allergy protocol.
Cornbread’s ideal home? He’d love a relaxed, mellow home where he could chill, nap, and cuddle with humans. Walks make him so happy (and would help to keep him at a healthy weight) and romping time with dog siblings would be a plus. People to love who would shower him with affection and attention would make this southern gentleman so happy. If this sounds like your home, reach out to us to set up your Fur-st Impression meeting with Cornbread!

Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue
• Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.
• Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs one year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.
• Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.
About Path of Hope Rescue
• At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.
• We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.
• Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.
