Corky

Corky is the cutest and softest pup ever, but she does have an attitude, even at just about 8 weeks of age. She might have had some bad experiences with people already--someone found her and turned her into the shelter so she seems to have been abandoned. We think that Corky might do best with an experienced owner who will be firm with her without adding to her distrust. She doesn't seem to be an alpha but she isn't shy, either. We just don't know. For the time being, we think young children, or children who might play too roughly, would be a bad idea. Also, she needs training too much for an owner who goes away to work every day for 8 hours--it might be ok for some puppies, but it WON'T be ok for Corky--she needs lots of bonding time, just petting and cuddling. Don't get me wrong--she is a GOOD puppy and seems smart, too, but she is going to be a very big dog and she will need the right training if she isn't going to have some problems down the road. You know, most of our puppies come in here with big smiles on their faces and laughing hearts, but Corky is a bit too subdued. It's sad. UPDATE! Well, a week's gone by and Corky is a different puppy! She's absolutely effervescent and loves everyone. We are still going to be careful about where Corky goes--we are now thinking that maybe her initial anxiety was due to being manhandled (babyhandled?) by children who were too small and/or too rough. She seems to like older children just fine. We haven't had a little one to test her on yet.
