My Story

When this handsome boy first came into his care, we knew him as Rocki. Having never experienced the world, he was very shy and unsure but extremely loving and gentle. We placed him in a foster home where they promptly changed his name to Corbin and he really began to came out of his shell. His foster mom Natasha was absolutely fantastic at getting Corbin out and about the town with lots of playdates with other doggy friends. When Nick saw his picture, he knew that he had to bring him home and when we recieved his application we knew that this would be a fanatastic match. And how could we say no? Nick already started preparing his house for his new canine friend before he even met him! Nick came and met him and there was an instant connection--he took him home that day and that very night we recieved our first email from him. They've already been out and about meeting all of the new doggy friends in the neighborhood, been introduced to his feline roomie Diesel, gone on a hike, been to the beach, and encountered another name change. That's life now for Rugar and we couldn't be happier for these two!

Here is an update from Corbin's foster mom:
Just wanted to let you know that I decided to go with "Corbin". He's funny, as long as you call him, he's happy! He is such a clever boy, I think you would really be impressed with how he's coming out of his shell. Every day is different (and we're only on day 3). I had him off leash this morning, in a quiet park--it was just me and him--so it was perfect. This evening we went to bridgman park, and he took a bit to adjust to it, but came out confident and happy. I went out with a friend and his dog, and I think Corbin enjoyed watching his dog's interactions. About 80% of the walk we were off lead and he was happy just trotting away on the path, did the odd shoulder check for me and came back to visit me often. I think he was still a bit anxious though--he never went to the bathroom once! Once we got home, I walked around my building with him, he peed and later pooped while on the lead (Michelle leant me the 30 ft lead). THis is a first as he has been pretty private and nervous about pooping on lead and in the open. The 30 ft lead is a bit lighter, so he doesn't start off in a crawl with it, like he does with the other one. So I bought a shorter, lighter lead tonight, and will use that while he's getting used to getting the lead put on etc. What else--I've been a bit worried about my cat being up on her scratching post the last 3 days. He likes to watch her, at which point I offer him a distraction. I'm relieved to say tonight, that I had him laying on one side of me and her on the other! So, I think there is big progress happening there as well. I still like to have him on a leash, when she is coming closer to the ground. . .just in case.

Corbins breed is a bit of this and a bit of that. He weighs about 50 lbs with a lab style body and adowny soft coat. Our best guess is Lab x Pit x Collie and so on.

Corbin is a neutered male who is about 2 years old. Rosy and Corbin were raised in a grow-op with little to no interaction with the outside world . Despite their pasts they are very loving and affectionate. He does not have a protective bone in his body. Corbin is easy-going in the house, and more active out and about. He is good with other dogs, fine with cats, and is learning all about house manners. Since Corbin has never seen much of the world he can be timid in new situations, but has never shown any inclination of aggression. He is just getting used to the leash, and currently spends much time slinking along the ground. Both dogs and constantly wagging their tails trying to make new friend in this busy world. He would do best in a fun yet gentle home with a fenced yard to play in.
Corbin is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and deflead.
