My Story

Cooper came to us back in early December as a crisis foster. His owner was experiencing homelessness and needed to move into a shelter. Dogs were not allowed and Cooper needed to find a temporary place until his owner could take him back. Cooper is still with us and fortunately his owner has found an apartment. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed so Cooper has officially been surrendered to us. We hope Cooper’s owner can focus on his own needs knowing that Cooper is safe. We think Cooper is between 10 - 12 years old and he is probably the blindest dog we’ve ever had. We have had dogs without eyes that have been able to navigate better than Cooper. But, being blind doesn’t slow him down one bit and he’s pretty fearless, but we keep him far away from stairs. Cooper also makes it very clear when he doesn’t want something being done to him. He will attempt to bite. It’s a lazy attempt, but still an attempt. He seems to like my husband much more than me so maybe he’s more comfortable with men. For the past 5 months Cooper has been living with a dozen other dogs. It was rough at first as Cooper would walk into dogs and startle/growl. But, after a week or two he was much better with everyone. He doesn’t play with the other dogs and will mostly keep to himself. Cooper is VERY cute and he absolutely loves lounging on the couch, warm laundry, and sun bathing. He prefers to sleep on the bed under the covers directly on your legs. Cooper is pretty quiet and will only bark/cry when it’s time to eat or if he wants to get off the couch. Cooper weighs 15lbs, is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and recently had a dental. We know finding Cooper a home will be a challenge. He’s completely blind and he has a tendency to try to bite. He’s not going to be a dog who goes to family picnics or breweries, but we know there’s a home out there for him.
