My Story

Meet Cooper! Cooper was surrendered to Lancaster Shelter by his owner with a large mass hanging from his stomach. We scooped him up on April 16th to provide the medical care he needed. After Cooper had surgery to remove the dangling mass, he felt like a new man ready for his new life! He is 8 years old and weighs 67 lbs. Cooper is a very loving, gentle boy who knows SIT and SHAKE and how to catch treats. He enjoys going on our weekly FFF hikes and playing ball. He LOVES belly rubs and isn't shy about asking for them! If you sit next to Cooper, he might just decide to climb in your lap! He loves neck scratches and gives sweet kisses. Cuddle bug Cooper is a volunteer favorite at FFF, and he has been on many solo outings with volunteers, including to parks for picnics and walks, to Kahoots to shop for treats, to coffee shops, and a pumpkin patch! Cooper currently lives in a Foster home, and we received a great update from his foster mom: "Cooper is the best boy! He absolutely loves cuddling, especially if he gets to be little spoon. He is completely house trained! We normally give him 4 walks a day, but he can go 9 hours in between. He loves going for walks, so we try to give him as many walks as we can fit in. Cooper tends to shadow the energy level of his person. When I'm working or relaxing, he's right next to me snoring away. If I want to go for a walk, hike, or run, he's also right next to me. Cooper has owner guarding. When he encounters other animals on our walks, he doesn't pay them much attention. If a dog comes close to his person, he'll bark. If his person is not near him, he is very friendly with other animals. If someone comes close to me outside of the house and they offer him treats, he is very well behaved. If we're on a walk and I talk to someone from a distance, he's totally fine. However, if someone comes very close to his person and they don't have any food for him, he'll bark or lunge if he is able to. We find Cooper's owner guarding to be very manageable. Outside of the house, we just make sure that we have treats in case someone gets close to us. When people come over, we keep him in the crate or put him in our yard. We are actively working on his owner guarding with a trainer. Cooper is a truly wonderful dog! He absolutely loves his people, and his favorite thing to do is to cuddle. He doesn't realize his size, so he loves to climb into your lap or be little spoon. You'll frequently find him on his back snoring away while sitting in the sun. Cooper would do best with an experienced owner and as the only dog in the house. His owner guarding does not impact his ability to be in a home with multiple people - he currently lives with two people and is incredibly loving and gentle with both of us. Cooper has been the perfect best friend and the sweetest pup for us. I can't believe he hasn't been adopted yet, but I know his forever family is going to be so lucky." ************************* Cooper eligible for our Molly & Me Project paid foster program. The Molly & Me Project is for senior dogs left behind by their owners that are poorly socialized with other animals, but they are incredibly loyal companions to humans and likely have been for many years. M&MP dogs are difficult to place and often find themselves in long term isolated kennel boarding or facing euthanasia. The Molly & Me Project was implemented to recruit people that have no other animals who can carry out our mission of family to love dogs like Molly who need to be an only pet long term. Requirements: - No other animals of any kind in the household - Submit weekly photos - Live an enriching life and include the Frosted Face - Demonstrate ability to avoid scenarios of negligence that would put the Frosted Face or other animals at risk Incentives - $200.00/month for a term of 12 months - We pay for veterinary expenses - Receive donated food and supplies If you are looking for a wonderful buddy, and you don't have other pets in your home, please consider fostering or adopting Cooper!
