My Story

Cooper was pulled from an Appalachian Ohio high-kill shelter the day he would have been gassed to help make room for 50-60 dogs who were being confiscated in a cruelty case. This adorable Boxer/Hound mix puppy was estimated at 10 months of age on 1/7/04 and weighed 35.2 lbs. Cooper is 18 inches tall at the shoulder and probably won't get much taller. He measures about 20 inches from the base of his neck to the base of his tail. His face is very much Boxer and, fortunately, no one has butchered his ears or tail to try and give him the "cosmetic" Boxer look. He plays with all of the other dogs (ranging from 5-80 lbs.) in his foster home and is fine with cats as well. Like any "self-respecting" Boxer or Boxer mix, Cooper boxes a lot during playtime; and it is funny to notice that he seems to prefer the Boxer mixes in his foster home (from the 20 lb. dwarf looking Boxer/Pug mix named Flint to a medium sized Boxer mix named Millie who likes "mothering" and snuggling up to the other dogs including Cooper). Though the other foster dogs sometimes gang up on Cooper, he never fights back but, instead, struggles to escape their outbursts of "gang violence". Cooper would undoubtedly love having at least one other friendly dog and a human child or two around 7 years of age or older with whom he could play every day--preferably in a securely fenced yard. He is a very affectionate and gentle boy and would make a fabulous addition to a home oriented family to hang out, love, and play. After testing negative for heartworms, Cooper was started on heartworm preventative, vaccinated, and neutered. Additional photos will be emailed to prospective adoptors.
