COMET (LOCAL on LONG ISLAND)

THIS DOG is on Long Island, NY Hi, I’m Comet. NYSRR is so committed to Comet finding his forever home they are offering to waive the adoption fee and work with his new person on continued professional training. This little love bug is Comet. Comet loves his people! He is just a wiggle butt, happy boy! He is a bit shy when he first meets new people but warms up quickly – just give me a treat and I am yours. Comet needs slow and steady intros with other dogs - don't bark in his face and he is good. He likes some dogs his size and likes to play but just needs time to warm up. No little dog, please. He plays rough – that typically boxer style, batting with his paws but listens so well to verbal corrections and re-direction, he just gets so excited – so maybe an older, and wiser dog who can handle his roughness and teach him how to play nicely. Comet was adopted as a puppy during covid and like many covid dogs – did not get proper socialization or learning skills. He was returned at 7 months old because he was starting to display some not nice behaviors that were never worked on. He was not used to other dogs and it was difficult to find him a foster so off to boarding he went and unfortunately he has remained in a boarding situation for over year. During this time he is constantly working with volunteers on training and socialization. Comet and his siblings are all a bit unsure of new things. He needs an experienced adopter who knows how to be the leader and is willing to be patient with Comet to allow him to be comfortable to his new surroundings.
