My Story

Hi everyone, I’m Colin! I was rescued from a horrible neglect situation in Birmingham, AL. Some kind people saw me in a backyard, chained to a tree in 11-degree weather and starving, and got help for me. Animal Control took me to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, and then my foster family came to get me! I have made so much progress learning how to be an inside dog and have really gotten used to life off a chain. I currently live with 4 rescued Italian Greyhounds who have taught me how to be a loved and valued family pet! Now I think I’m a 12-pound lap dog and just want to climb in your lap for affection. I also live with a cat, and we get along great! My foster siblings have also taught me to enjoy dog things like getting to run free in a fenced back yard and playing with toys. Now I get to have zoomies whenever I want and prance around showing off my favorite squeaker toy while my happy propeller tail wags! It’s a pretty cool feeling! When I was first rescued, I was very scared. I was emaciated, anemic, covered in fleas, itchy, and had worms in my heart and belly; But, my foster home gave me lots of love and patience, and helped me get better both inside and out. I received medicine for my parasites and started my heartworm treatment! I have gained weight and I feel so much happier and healthier now. In just a few weeks I went from hiding in a corner, afraid to be touched, to following my foster mom everywhere. She LOVES me and wants to make sure I go to a home that will be kind and gentle with me. She knows that I have been through a lot, and I need someone who understands me. I am a 2.5-year-old, 60-pound, neutered pittie mix. I have all my shots and I am almost done with my heartworm treatment, but I will need to be on heartworm prevention for the rest of my life. I am great with other dogs, kids and even cats! But because I am big and playful and don’t realize my strength, I would do better with kids 12 and older so I don’t knock anyone down. I know “sit” and “wait” and I’m working on my leash skills. I can be a little pully but can be corrected easily. I am potty and crate trained but still learning to like my crate. I have some separation anxiety and don’t like to be without my people; However, once I’m in my crate, I settle quickly and do fine. I have a special escape proof crate that was purchased for me by a kind group of ladies and it will come with me to my new family if they need it. I can be a bit shy of strangers at first. I will growl a little, but my tail is still wagging. I just need some time to trust you and make sure you aren’t going to hurt me. If you give me a treat, I will be your best friend! I love to be called “good boy” and I will wiggle my whole butt like a windmill when you give me affirmations. I am being fostered in Birmingham, AL but can be transported to other states for the right adopter. If you think I’m the goodest boy for you, please fill out an application today! *Must be 21 or older to apply.
