My Story

Put some pep in your step with a strong serving of Coffee ACCT-A-169975! Found running the streets of Philly, Coffee is a female who came to the shelter as a stray on 7/25. Dog-social and foster-eligible, she can't wait to brew up daily fresh pots of love and joy for her new forever family! Videos: +Coffee and Corrie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ydKrWDMjM0 Behavioral notes: 7/26 Per volunteer-- Coffee was sleeping in kennel upon approach. Once leash was presented she got up and was easily leashed. Coffee pulls moderately on leash. Once outside she peed. Allowed all over petting. Seeing dogs at a distance Coffee would bark. We did a walk along dog meet with Corrie and Coffee relaxed as she got to sniff her. After meeting Corrie then Coffee was fine walking with her around the parking lot. Coffee would pull strongly towards cars as if she were seeking to go on a car ride. She happily greeted strangers and allowed petting from staff. She was easily returned to kennel. BEHAVIOR EVALUATION (7/26): KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Coffee was laying against the door when I approached. I called her and she sat up with ears pinned back, hard whale eyes, and a lowered head. I used a baby voice to coax her and offered the leash for her to sniff. She sniffed the leash through the door and did a big stretch, wagging her tail as well. She loosened up as soon as she saw the leash and knew she was getting out. She was easy to leash and came right out once secured. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls strongly, alert barked at dogs that were reacting in their kennels but I was able to keep her moving easily HANDLING: When we first got to the room Coffee sniffed around and explored. I offered her some treats but she wasn't interested. A staff member had to pop in for a second, and Coffee was completely unreactive and greeted them with nice sniffs and wags! She came up to me when called and leaned her neck and head into me, soaking up some love. She really liked the left side of her neck scratched. She allowed all handling with no issues, and even let me give her a light hug! She's an anxious shepard, but she's cuddly and sweet! She even rolled over for some belly rubs! Overall she's a sweet shepard who's just a little anxious. PLAY: Engages in play TOYS: Loved balls, tennis balls and squeaky balls alike! She would trade her ball for a new one and even let me take the ball from her mouth and from right in front of her! Medical notes: During an intake exam on 7/26, staff observed that Coffee was actively lactating and in general good health.
