My Story

Coco was initially adopted from Valley Humane on 2/27/2013; her owner recently passed away and with no family in the area to take over the dog's care, Coco ended up back in the shelter. Coco received a full medical work-up and while she has a few health concerns, she is a healthy lady for her age! Coco got a dental cleaning on 7/26/24 and is now looking for a forever home for her twilight years. Coco is blind due to cataracts but gets around well and knows to move slowly and carefully. She is calm, easy to handle and friendly. Coco weighs 12 pounds. Coco has a mass on her right rear foot. A fine needle aspirate was performed but the results were non diagnostic due to low cellularity. Since it is not bothering Coco, the mass should be monitored for growth and discomfort at this time. Coco has a mild increase in ALT, one of the liver enzymes. An abdominal ultrasound was done to assess the liver and it was unremarkable. The ALT should be rechecked in 6 months. Coco has been diagnosed with Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), also known as dry eye. This is an eye condition that is caused by lack of tear production in the eye. KCS can be caused by viruses, neurologic disease or trauma, certain medications, ulcers, eye injuries, or eye infections. Coco was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes, which is an opacity in the lens. If there is no associated inflammation or glaucoma and the only problem is blindness, it is perfectly reasonable to have a blind pet. Blind animals have good life quality and do well though it is important not to move furniture around or leave any hazardous clutter in the home. Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption?
