My Story

Clark has a wonderful Sponsor!! Thank You Becky M. from Colorado........Adoption Fee reduced for that special permanent home...... 9/09 - Still waiting on the a permanent home with patience, love and positive reinforcement skills to continue efforts to gain trust and bond with Clark. There's been get strides made in overcoming his fear of people and city life -- Clark still has a ways to go on complete comfort.........He's a goofy lovable boy! 12/08 - Clark is making progress on his socialization and building trust. Best placement would be in a home with another playful dog. Kind older children would be fine. Toddlers - Clark being playful could knock a youngster over. ~~~~~~~~~~ . Clark came to us from an overcrowded kill shelter in west central Illinois. No time to spare -- his euthanizing day was approaching. Clark, along with his brother Lewis, are American Foxhounds. Both with tricolor coat and 11 months old. Still a pup. His present weigh is 53 pounds. A bit more sociable than his brother Lewis, we believe he too was abused. Crate trained and slowly learning to walk on leash. Best permanent adopting home would be with another playful loving dog that can help him overcome any uncertainty of people and burn off some energy. Clark loves to play!!. Definitely not an alpha or pack leader type boy. An attentive couple or family using positive reinforcement works well with Clark. He definitely warms up to positive reinforcement! Large securely fenced yard is needed. Most hounds like to track or follow a scent oblivious to surroundings. Neutered, vaccines up to date and heartworm negative. Adoption fee $160. <><><><> Breed Info: The Foxhound is usually well-mannered in the home. He gets along best with human or canine companionship. They are tolerant, friendly, gentle and sensitive dogs. Generally, American Foxhounds tolerate the poking and prodding of children rather well. We've heard of young children learning to walk by holding onto a Foxhounds upright tail! Not real demonstrative pooches though. Some can become couch potatoes as they age. They quickly jump from the couch if you mention "outside"! Most are reserved with strangers. They are highly sociable and should never be expected to live without human or canine companionship.
