My Story

Update Sept 2007

Cisco is a sweet, gentle little guy. He's only been with us one day but it's clear that he is SOOOO happy to be an indoor dog and part of a family. He is very shy and but is adjusting well. Yesterday, he would timidly walk up to us when we called him and by the evening, he was coming more quickly and his tail was wagging. Today, he came right away when called and is ready to jump in our laps. If we don't pat him while he's in our lap, he nudges our hand just a bit. And finally tonight, he's reaching up to give us kisses. He's just as happy to be with my son as he is with me as long as someone is with him and loving him.

He goes in his crate without a fuss and doesn't utter a noise. I have yet to hear him speak. He hasn't had any accidents and goes to the bathroom quickly when he's outside. He would love to sleep in bed with us but my bossy little one would never share his bed. We did all take a nap together on the couch today though and Cisco was in heaven (even if my guy wasn't -ha ha!) He has the maturity of a three-year old adult dog but the sweet little puppy face - check out those big chocolate eyes!!!

Cisco and I went to an event today with lots of dogs and people. He let everyone, adults and kids, pet him. He was good with the all other dogs but intimidated by the larger ones. He's been getting along fine with my dogs. One of mine barks at him occasionally and he gets nervous and submissive. He ignores the cats except when they rub up against them and then he just runs away. Although he was fine with younger kids today, I wouldn't recommend he live with really young children because noises and quick movements make him a bit nervous. But he'd be fine for visits.

So he hasn't had any accidents, hasn' t made any noise, hasn't chewed anything and gets along with everyone/everything he's met. All he's done so far is be a perfect little dog. He is going to make an awesome companion. He will give years and years of cuddling and snuggling to his lucky new family.

This adorable little guy is Cisco!

Cisco is about 3 years old and has been shuffled around from home to home his whole life. It is our hope that we can find him a truely FOREVER home. Because he has been moved around so much, Cisco does have some trust issues and might be a little slow to warm up at first. However, once he gets over his initial shyness, he is sweet, sweet, sweet!

Cisco gets on with other dogs and with cats. We don't know how he is with children, but due to his small size (9 lbs) we would probobly not reccomend a home with small kids. Cisco appears to be housetrained, but will most likely need a refresher course in his new home.

If you think you can give this little guy the home he needs and deserves, please send in an app today!

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending.

This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Christine: [email protected] for this particular dog.
