Circus is a very energetic, very happy, very curious and very handsome young man (he’ll be three in December). He is at his best when trying to please and gives you his full, bright-eyed attention when learning. His ideal home would be with someone who is commited to continuing his training and keeping him occupied......he'd make an excellent agility candidate! Circus needs a LOT of exercise and a potential adopter needs to have a lifestyle which will accommodate that.
He has been living with other dogs but has not been exposed to cats. He may be fine if introduced properly, but he'd probably be better off in a cat-free home. Due to his highly energetic nature, a home with children is probably not ideal either. There is not a mean bone in his body, but he is 50 pounds of solid muscle and could accidentally injure someone who does not have the physical stature or authoritative command to correct him when he gets excited - or remain standing should he brush by you when running! Circus loves to "rough and tumble" with his canine companions so a home with a non-tolerant dog may not be the best match.
Please be aware that this dog will need a firm and consistent hand, preferably someone who has experience with the terrier breed. He does have the potential to be unruly if not given clear boundaries or provided with activities to keep him busy. His current challenge is staying focused when confronted with a distraction. When within his usual routine he is perfectly well-behaved, but he is easily excitable and his attention wanders when presented with new situations. Clear and confident handling will be needed as he continues to increase his comfort zone. Youthful indiscretions aside, he is well on his way to becoming a model doggie citizen.
Circus is housetrained and crate-trained (he LOVES his crate), rides well in the car, carries his own backpack and loves nothing better than to curl up next to you and sleep after a long hike. He is also very fond of ice cubes (yes!) and will run over for one if he hears you filling a glass! He is 100% healthy, up to date on shots and microchipped. And he's looking for..........YOU!
Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.
All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.
Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)
Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?
What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)
What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?
Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?
Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?
Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)
Do you own or rent your home?
What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)
Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?
Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
