My Story

Cindy is available for sponsorship only. She is in a long term permanent foster home. She is not available for adoption. Cindy was rescued in August of 2014 from the Orange County Animal Shelter when she was approximately 6 years old. She was brought there along with another dog by the son of her owner. The owner was an older gentleman with a number of health issues and was moved to assisted living. The son immediately took the dogs to a high kill shelter instead of trying to find the dogs a new home or contact any rescue organizations. The shelter assigned her as a "rescue only" status, meaning the shelter would not allow the general public to adopt her, and if a rescue organization did not take her she would be put to sleep in 10 days. When we met Cindy at the shelter she was terrified and had shut down. It took alot of bribing and coaxing to get her to come to the front of her kennel to get her leashed. Once out of the shelter setting she immediately bonded to her rescuer. We subsequently learned that she was deaf and she had not been well socialized. In the early months while in rescue her behavior could be unpredictable. We knew it would be quite a while before, or even if, we would find a qualified suitable home for her. After several months it was decided that it would be best not to disrupt the great progress that had been made in her foster home. She was becoming a much more trusting and confident dog. She had bonded with her foster mom, the other dogs in the household, in addition to the cats, goats and horses. They all played a part in helping Cindy recover from the loss of her prior owner, and blossom into a happy more accepting dog. Did you see her picture with the famous dalmatian smile! She does that quite often and wiggle waggle her body too. Not wanting to disrupt her life once again and risk regression it was determined that she was an appropriate candidate for our Forever Foster program, which her current foster home lovingly agreed to care for Cindy for the rest of her life. In this program Save the Dalmatians commits to financially supporting Cindy for the remainder of her life, covering her vet bills, vaccines, etc. Her Foster home commits to providing her a safe and loving home.
