This dog is special, actually amazing, but he has a few quirks his new family needs to find endearing.
Here is Chiefy’s highlight reel:
- House trained with regular trips outside, leash trained, prefers to sleep in your bed with you (not crate trained)
- Fully vetted, microchipped and neutered
- Goofy, low to medium energy, affectionate and occasionally trips over his own feet
- Sings himself to sleep, particularly when he is bored or extra tired
- Loves to ride in the car and get pup cups
- Enjoys meeting new dogs but needs a medium energy dog as a sibling that is above 40lbs
- He is the submissive type and follower rather than a leader
- He is a communicator, a vocal dog who barks, growls, whines as part of his regular communication
- Working on fetch and brings it back a few times before being distracted
- Has that big dog swagger although we think he will end up around 65+lbs
- Food? This boy is a foodie and loves just about everything he has ever tasted. Favorites include ice, blueberries, carrots, cheese, peanut butter and normal dog treats of course
- Has the slowest zoomies around, but does it with all his heart
- Needs a fenced yard
- Likes playing in baby pools and the edge of the lake, but not a fan of baths or submerged swimming
- Chiefy does request a sandbox be installed under the shade of a tree as it is his favorite place
- Basically, he is a giant puppy who loves hard, plays hard and sleeps hard
Chiefy came into rescue at just 8 weeks old from the Georgia/Alabama line near Chattanooga and it was just after the Superbowl which is how he got his name after the Kanas City Chiefs. Right from the get-go, he loved being with people and always wanted to snuggle and follow them around. He does fantastic every time we take him out in public, the people at Home Depot love him, he rocks brunch at the café and the kids adore him at the park. He even took a boat trip and had a blast, I wouldn’t call him a swimmer, but he does love running along the shoreline. He lights up when he sees another dog and as much as he adores people, we think he would really like another medium energy doggie playmate to keep him company. He lives with cats and while he wishes they would play with him; he understands they prefer to just hang out and look cool. He can be uncomfortable around very young kids and would probably do better in a home with children 7+ who knows to give dogs their space and are prepared to be around a clumsy large dog. He is a communicator and uses growling, barking, squeaking, and sighing as part of the sounds he makes especially when he is excited like after a bath, but he is 100% not aggressive in any way. He is still teething and needs lots of toys and bones to soothe his chewing needs. If you were from home and are on the phone all day this could be a challenge because his bark is loud. There is something special about Chiefy and when you meet him you will feel it, this guy is the best dog, possibly an old soul, 100% a keeper and the dog you will compare all other dogs to for the rest of your life.
