Chief (DR7145)

This photogenic ham is Chief! Or Chief-ers, as he is affectionately known. Chief came to in February after being pulled from our local animal control. He was a shy puppy who appeared to have a leg injury. Our suspicions were confirmed when radiographs showed he had a tibial tuberosity avulsion - a separation of a bony prominence located just below the knee joint, from the tibia. Chief responded very well to rest and medication, so surgery was not elected. For the past two months Chief has been on a treatment plan with repeated radiographs to tract the process of his healing. He had a final recheck today and he's all clear to find his furr-ever home! Chief is now 11 months old and just a little over forty pounds. He's an active puppy that is looking for a home that can match his energy. He's still growing and we expect him to be fifty pounds or larger when fully grown. Chief loves everyone he comes into contact with, and always has a smile on his face. Sometimes his lips get stuck on his teeth and it's the cutest thing! Because of Chief's activity level and the fact he's been on exercise restrictions, he has a lot of pent up energy. Sometimes this comes across as him being mouthy, with wrists being his favorite to nibble. He does well being redirected with a fluffy toy, but will need some additional training with his manners. Ideally, a home without small children would be best so that he's not accidentally too rough with them. Chief would love another canine sibling though, and could probably learn a thing or two from them. Chief catches on quick and is learning to enjoy car rides.
