My Story

Chewbacca (Chewie) is a 5 year old male terrier cross - according to the people who surrendered him, he maybe crossed with shihtzu. He's a small guy with a bit of an underbite (his bottom tooth sticks out over his lip on occasion giving him a bit of a sneer!)He previously lived with both men and women and kids aged 7-12 but according to previous owners he is timid with strange men. He is compatible with cats and loves to go on walks. He also plays well with other dogs his size and is currently hanging out with Toto at the shelter for play time. He is used to grooming and travels well in a vehicle. He apparently has a tendency to chase cars/bikes, so should be walked on leash. See other video clips on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdBSBKklqeM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNVaxvxtwlM AUG 3/2010 - UPDATE FROM VOLUNTEER WHO TOOK HIM CAMPING Chewie rides quietly in the car. He sleeps or lies down the whole way. After about two hours of being with him it was like he was my dog. The family noticed that he watched my every move. He walks well on the leash, he pulls at first but when corrected he stops pulling. He was taken on walks by all the family members including kids (9,12 yrs old) When let off the leash Chewie does wander away but does come but when he feels like it! He is house trained. He had no accidents after a very long night of sleeping and not being let out ( 8- 10- hours). He did not chew on anything. In the camper he lies down (preferably on the bed or couch):). He is a very calm dog and very easy to care for and is like your best freind at all times. He only barked once all weekend. When he wasn't walking or in the camper is was tied up at the campsite with us around. I did leave him tied up for a very short time alone and he was fine and was quiet. At first when he met the family he was tentative around men. After a couple of hours he was everyone's friend including our poodle. He ls loyal and is an expert swimmer. After testing his swimming skills by the shore I left him off leash with family. I went ahead and waded very far out in the lake only to be surprised by a call that Chewie was swimming out to me!!!! Chewie swam very far out before I could get to him . I believe he would have kept swimming forever or until he got too tired just to get to me! It was so cute but also quite dangerous. So now we know Chewie swims but should be tied up at the lake or at least supervised while swimming! Our dog adoption fee is $160 which includes spay/neuter, shot, rabies shot and microchip.
