My Story

4/26/06: Chelsea is a wonderful girl who almost missed the chance of finding a good home due to a health condition. She was originally adopted from a local DCO into a wonderful home...unfortunately, it was found out that she was heartworm positive and she was returned only to face euthanasia. The dog warden who fostered this sweet girl knew how special she was and didn't want to send her over the rainbow bridge just yet so he asked for our help. Chelsea is 73# and ~2 yrs old. She is an athletic dog who enjoys the company of the other dogs in her foster home and seems to like kitty company as well. We believe her to be a flat-coated retriever mix since she looks JUST like a black golden retriever, though we don't know what she is for sure. She appears to be housebroken and crate trained and LOVES people of all shapes and sizes though we would recommend a home with children over 6 due to her large size and energy level. She has been placed on heartworm preventative to control her heartworm disease. The preventative will not cure this problem, but can ensure she won't get any more heartworms in her heart and those that she has will die off in a few years. The cost of preventative for a dog her size is ~60$ for a 7 month supply but ALL dogs should be on preventative to keep them negative. In Oswego County last year nearly 300 NEW cases of heartworm disease were detected...this doesn't include those found in previous years that were not treated. We are the 6th highest heartworm positive county in the state! If you can give Chelsea a good home and plan to either treat her heartworm disease ($400-$600) or even just keep her on preventative, please contact us for more info. She is SUCH a sweet girl, don't let this seal her fate! She has been examined, vaccinated, heartworm tested, spayed and microchipped.
Please copy and paste a completed adoption application from our homepage with your inquiry. Priority will be given only to those inquiries that contain a completed application. We get dozens of emails and phone calls each day with only an hour of "free time" to volunteer and answer them around our full-time jobs and family life...don't let your inquiry get passed by because of an incomplete application.
Help our rescue by donating to our "Spay the momma fund". When adopting one of our babies, if each new family would contribute an extra $10 we can help out that babies mother by assisting with the cost of her spay. Help turn the momma into a pet rather than a breeding factory, donate today!
Adoptions limited to a 500 mile radius of Pulaski, NY and pets must be viewed in person prior to adoption; animals will not be shipped to their new homes. Veterinary reference check and adoption donation also required. Check out our homepage for a full list of our adoption requirements.
