My Story

Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying. Thank you for your cooperation. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS - NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 8/1/2024: Cheezit - female - approx 6 years old - 10.2 pounds - Shih Tzu Reason for intake: At first glance of the photo on the left of this collage, you might think... "awww... she looks like a well-cared for little dog"... UNTIL you look closer. Her little paws are encased in matting, her underbelly and backside are matted with feces and hair... she has a huge what appears to be mammary tumor and the flea dirt... wow. So much flea dirt! She came to us from Caddo Parish Animal Services where they had already given her something for the fleas so we didn't find any live fleas... but the flea dirt told us how many she must have been fighting 24/7. A volunteer for the shelter contacted us because she was a little spicy and was snappy and growling but honestly, who could blame her? I, Ninna, went to meet her and took her in a quiet room away from all the chaos and barking. I sat on the floor with her. It was instantaneous that I realized she is just scared. I lured her to me with the slip leash and she came willingly and sat on my lap as if to say "please take me". That's all it took for me. Lola reported that upon checking her in... she didn't give any resistance or try to snap or growl or anything. She's decompressing now and heading to our vet the week of 8/5/2024. We will have everything taken care of including a shave down to get rid of all the matting and the removal of the mammary tumor, spaying, etc. Stay tuned. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS: Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed. Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining. In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason. We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption. In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered. Please note we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption. Please wait until the dog is available for adoption. We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.416768288349589&type=3 OR you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~ Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life. Blessings.
