Try fostering a dog for Rawhide Rescue

For more information, visit us at RawhideRescue.org

Say hi to Charlie! This kind gentleman was found as a stray, wandering alone, and scared, on the Bronx River Parkway. Luckily he was scooped up by a friendly shelter worker. He was so frightened and scared, but was glad to be off the streets. He was severly infested with fleas, which caused him to lose some of his hair, commonly called alopecia, on some spots on his body. But the shelter staff quickly came to the rescue, and with treatment, got rid of his itchy passengers!! No one gave poor Charlie a second look at the shelter, because he was so timid and scared, and he was slated to be euthanized. But the call went out to his saviors at Rawhide, and his foster mom rushed down to pick up this sweetie!

We think our sweet Charlie is an Olde English Sheepdog mix. Even though he is missing some hair in different spots, which our vet said would eventually grow back, we think he looks absolutely adorable with with his white and brown wirey coat. One of the shelter workers said she thought he looked like a muppet! He is even more adorable because he has one blue eye and one brown eye!! When Charlie's foster mom brought him home from the shelter, he was so dirty, sad, nervous and scared, but after a nice warm soapy bath, it was like the hardships he endured on the streets was washed away, and he slowly started to open up. We think, after a few days, being in his new foster home, he will feel at ease, and truly come out of his shell. He got along quite well with the female dogs at his foster family's house, attempting to romp with them, after his bath.

He is a little shy meeting new dogs at first, but quickly wants to make friends, so we know he will be good with other dogs. We are unsure of how he is with cats, as his foster family does not have any cats. He is quite gentle with his foster family's toddler, even allowing her to lead him gently around the yard by his leash, but we think a home with older children or adults only would be best for him, as he needs a calm household, and loud noises frighten him. He is a little nervous meeting new people, because of the experiences he might have had, but he quickly warms up, if given the chance.

He is up to date on his shots, and will be neutered shortly. He seems to be housebroken, as he did not have any accidents on his first day at his new foster home. His foster mom is trying to work with him, on learning some commands, and we think he is willing to learn. His lower and upper incisor and canine teeth have been worn away quite a bit, which we originally thought might make it difficult for him to eat dry food, but he has no problems eating dry food at all, and is so excited when it's chow time!! He definitely loves getting yummy treats, and has no problem with hard biscuits or soft treats, and loves cheese, but what dog doesn't!!

If you are the wonderful family, that is willing to give this sweet gentleman a loving place in your home, overlooking his spots of missing hair, and willing to help him overcome his shyness, then don't hesitate, and fill out an application for sweet Charlie. What Charlie might be missing in hair, he makes up for with his giant heart, with all the love he has to give!
