Bad First Impressions - to know them is to love them!!!
And love them we do.... but one thing I have learned at the shelter is it is not a Disney movie. I love commercials that show shelters quiet, and every dog looks and acts like a lovable cartoon. The reality is very often different.
We have had two dogs at the shelter for a very long time, mainly because of stranger fear. But once they are comfortable. they are very sweet dogs.
Charlie requires a very dedicated person to take the time to get to know him. Treats make it easier! Charlie has learned "touch" where he will go up to strangers who hold out their hand for him and say "touch", knowing a cookie will follow shortly. We have many volunteers who have earned his trust after patience and time. And we have gotten to know their true personalities, not the fearful barking when they encounter a new person through the fence.
He would make a very loyal companion but never really gets the chance because of a bad first impressions. Charlie is very smart and can learn tricks, so long as he gets a treat in the end!
If you have the time and patience, come on down to the shelter just to get to know them... it may take time, but they are both worth the effort. Charlie is three years old, completely house broken and very well-behaved.
We are at the shelter from 3-5 daily, 260 Margaret King Avenue, Ringwood, NJ.
