My Story

Update 2/18/10: Cecil is very sweet and shy. He has plays very well with my dogs and is getting used to the cats. He loves being outside and needs a home where he can be exercised a lot!! He is still working on his house training and would benefit from a regular schedule of potty breaks. Cecil adores all females but is a bit timid of males. His foster mom hasn't exposed him to children yet, but she thinks he would be just great. Cecil is being fostered in Whitefield, Maine.

Cecil has arrived into foster care in Maine. This is what his foster mom has to say about him:

" We love cecil! He was extremely shy/timid the first two days and kept completely to himself and didn't want to eat. But now he has warmed up to us and is socializing much, much more. He is afraid of my cats.He loves the snow and I have been bringing him outside 4x a day for short walks. He is still working on his house training. He is very healthy and alert and becoming more affectionate towards me and my small dog. He's great!

Cecil is 2 - 3 years old in these pictures taken in September 2009 at our partner shelter in Arkansas. Before coming to the shelter he spent his time running the neighborhood where his former owners lived. They left him when they moved and the neighbors took care of him.

After about a year, some of the neighbors got tired of Cecil because he liked to dig in their flower beds or underneath their decks. He was only making him self at home after all, since the neighborhood was his home. It took a few months, but a couple finally won Cecil's trust enough to catch him.

Cecil will not come up to you if he is outside. Once on a leash, he is very sweet and gets along with humans of all ages. Cecil is supposed to be house trained, does well on a leash, and gets along great with the other dogs. Some of the other dogs beat up on Cecil and he just takes it. So we are very careful who we put him with. He is very submissive.

On September 4, 2009, Cecil was neutered, tested for Heartworms/Lyme/Ehrlichia, given his rabies shot, and was micro chipped. He weighed 19 pounds. Cecil is on HW preventative. Cecil is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $300 for dogs up to 6 months of age, $250 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $200 for dogs 5 years and older. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Adele at lonepine_ahr@yahoo for this particular dog. Click HEREto visit our site.
