My Story

Kassie is 2 year old spayed 62-lb female possibly cattle dog mix. She’s enthusiastic, curious, and cuddly and always excited to meet new people, you can tell because she will untie your shoes for you or tug on your pant leg while wagging her tail. She enjoys cuddling, chasing a ball (will bring it back to you sometimes), going for car rides, biting the sprinkler & hose water, and just hanging out enjoying the sunshine with her people. She’s always excited to go on an adventure, new places, walks, or just hang out with the family. Kassie recall is great and wont stray far from you and will learn her boundaries quickly, she’s also good on a leash if that’s more your style. She knows the commands sit, shake, down, come, and leave-it. We think she would be fine around kids and not seen anything that would make us feel otherwise. We would consider her a lower energy dog who appreciates a good couch. She adjusts well to new environments and has not shown any destructive behavior but can be animal selective. To get more information on a Pups On Parole dog, please contact the Pups on Parole Coordinator of the Lassen Humane Society at 831-809-5034 or e-mail [email protected]. The Pups On Parole Program started in June of 2007 to help give homeless dogs a second chance at finding an adoptive family. All dogs in the program spent time in our local county shelter, surrendered by their owners or picked up as strays and waiting for their owners to redeem them or to be adopted by new families. The selected dogs are brought current on vaccinations (rabies, kennel cough, distemper/parvo, 1st flu), spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and heart worm tested. They then are taken to the California Correctional Center Firehouse where they are assigned to a handler/ inmate fire fighter. These handlers groom and work with each dog and give them the extra time and attention they need to become wonderful family companions. Most pups are house trained and know basic obedience commands. As of July 2023, 696 dogs have been adopted through this program. To meet any of the Pups On Parole dogs, arrangements must be made in advance.
