My Story

My name is Captain, and I'm a 4-year-old, border collie mix who is looking for a mature and stable forever home of my own. I'm looking for a person who will love me unconditionally, just as I will love them. I start off a bit shy but once I get to know you, I am loyal, respectful, and so very goofy. I am super smart and know lots of commands like sit, down, shake, back up, wait, come and quiet (for when I get too excited and start barking). I am already crate and potty trained too! I am also very good at walking on a leash and just enjoy being outside in the sun and sniffing around. I love treats, playing with toys, and snuggles. I'm an amazing cuddle buddy, and if you let me into your life, you'll never be lonely. I have enough energy to accompany you on walks, runs or hikes but enough chill to be your favorite movie or reading companion. Sadly, I am working through some trust issues and am learning to let my guard down. There has been some possible mistreatment in my past, or unfortunate accidents that have led to me not feeling confident around new people - especially excited kids. So for now, I'd prefer to be in a home with adults only and no other animals. Despite my rough past, I don't let that define me. I'm all about the present and the future! I really need a human who will respect my fear, assure me I will be okay, and set me up for success. I need a person I can rely on, that is consistent and kind, who can advocate for me, and is willing to work to build my confidence (possibly with a confidence-building trainer) to help me develop into the best doggo I know I can be. I am not quick to trust, but once I do, I will love you forever and will promise to be the best friend I can be. I deserve the best and I will try to give you my best in return; all I ask for is some understanding, patience and time. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Captain's adoption fee is $200.
