My Story

Update Aug 1/24 - Canuck has been in a wonderful foster home and here is what they have to report on his stay so far: -Playful, athletic, loves fetch. Will thrive in an active family who can take him for walks and play with him every day. -Sweet and gentle personality. Loves hugs and cuddles. -Intelligent and fun to train. -Loyal and ready to connect with a family. He loves it when everyone’s home and the “pack” is all together. -Quiet, rarely barks. -House trained and can use a doggie door. -Doesn't chew anything he's not supposed to in the house, i.e. our slippers and furniture are safe. -Quiet in the car, doesn't get car sick. -Polite on leash and well mannered on walks. Heels and listens well. -Social with people. (We've noticed he's more cautious around men than women and can be a little shy in new environments, but he overcomes it well.) -No aggression or resource guarding. -No separation anxiety; fine to be left alone loose in the house. So far, we've left him for 1-2 hours and he just rests while we're gone. -Energy level is totally manageable – I’d say medium. Between walks/playtime, he’s happy to chill. Improvement: He is a much calmer dog outside of the shelter environment. He’s been very well mannered when meeting new people and is not mouthy or jumpy. it's rare that he does it and easily corrected with a "no" if he does. In progress: -He can be too interested in other dogs we pass while walking, so I’ve been working on keeping his attention on me with treats, and he’s listening very well. I'm impressed with his responsiveness. We haven't introduced him to other dogs yet because of the surgery, but we will start socializing him with other dogs when he's healed enough to play. -We haven't introduced him to kids yet, but he met my 2-year-old niece from a couple feet away and seemed totally fine. My hunch is that he would do well with dog-savvy kids, but I think he would be nervous around chaotic kids. Other Dogs - good Cats - unknown Kids - Older children ok New People - loves them! Other notes - be an awesome adventure dog, running, bike riding, etc -------------------------------------------------------------------- At City of Vancouver Animal Services, we have a foster-to-adopt program whereby prospective new owners foster the adoptable animal for 30 days before committing to adoption. This ensures that both the new owner and the adoptable animal are well suited to each other. Adoption Fee $353 Includes: -spay/neuter -first set of shots -one vet visit -microchip -bag of food If you live in Vancouver, you will also need to buy a dog license. Contact: [email protected]
