My Story

This dog is with Rat Terrier Rescue Canada. Please note that we are unable to adopt outside of Canada. If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION USING THIS LINK: http://forms.gle/Ev16pQeQ2zAZWLig6. DO NOT USE THE PETFINDER INQUIRY SYSTEM. THOSE WHO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED FIRST AND YOUR INQUIRY MAY NOT EVEN BE SEEN UNTIL AFTER WE HAVE STOPPED ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS. All our foster dogs are in private foster homes. The foster parents have written the bios you will read with what they know about the dog. Please read the bios carefully and ensure they are a fit for your household. Thank you. ------------------------------------------------------ Fostered in Eaton Rapids, Michigan Camo is a male, 63 lb. 3 year old Mountain Cur mix. Camo is a beautiful dog that was given a second chance in life. Previously a stray dog living on the streets in Texas, he was brought to Canada and is now looking for a home. Camo has been through a lot in his short life. Back in Texas, he was hit by a car while scavenging for food, and his back legs were injured in the accident. He went through hip surgery (FHO) that saved his left hind leg. His right hind leg was scarred, but has healed well after a lengthy recovery. Despite these traumatic events at such a young age, Camo is a very sweet and friendly dog. He never passes the opportunity to play with other dogs. He loves to play with bigger dogs and is incredibly gentle towards smaller ones. He walks on a leash and behaves well when meeting other dogs. The Mountain Cur is known for its intelligence. Camo has learned new commands in no time and enjoys training. He is very food motivated so that is a bonus. Camo has a medium energy level, he enjoys regular, gentle exercise (throw that tennis ball!) and mental stimulation. At his foster home, Camo lives with other dogs and is very considerate of the smaller dogs. He would love a dog nearer his size to play with. He adores car rides, swimming in the lake, and observing life on the street through the windows. He is always ready for a new adventure and new challenge. Camo is a well behaved house dog. He is crate trained and will seek his crate out for a nap. He loves the doggy door at his foster home. He is housebroken and chews on his own toys. And he loves toys! He loves to chase a tennis ball and might bring it back. Working on it. He has SO many great qualities, but life is not fair and Camo has been diagnosed with bilateral elbow dysplasia. This is being managed with inexpensive supplements and keeping his exercise managed. Due to this condition, he can limp when he has done too much. He will develop arthritis later in life and that will require additional medication. Regardless he has SO much to offer the right home who will love him for who he is and his limitations which do not diminish his capacity to love his humans. Because of this recent diagnosis, RTRC intends to reduce his adoption fee to the right adopter. So handsome and sweet Camo is looking for that unicorn of a family who will accept him just as he is and appreciate all he has to offer. He would love to learn more tricks and do some gentle walks as well as a bit of chasing the tennis ball. Since he is a Mountain Cur mix, a fenced yard is necessary so he doesn't go sniffing a rabbit scent. He is very affectionate toward his people and eager to please. He enjoys the company of his furry siblings, but has never been tested with cats. He is a fully grown dog that thinks he is still a puppy, and is clumsy at times, and should be supervised while around young children. If you think that Camo fits your family lifestyle and you can provide a safe and loving environment for this sweet dog, please apply for him through the link below.
