My Story

Camiseta (Spanish for t-shirt), or Cami for short, was spotted running up and down the shelter road. She had a t-shirt tied around her body, so we knew she had an owner at some point and time. We weren’t able to catch her initially but spotted her a few days later in front of the rooster farm by us, along with another dog. Upon her vet exam and removing the tee, it was clear she recently had stitches for a wound on her left side. The fur was pretty recently shaved but the stitches had come out. We now know why the tee was on, to protect the wound. She had the stitches done again by our vet the day after rescue. The vet didn’t think she was in heat but the other dog would not leave her alone, so it’s possible she was about to start or just finishing heat. She is as sweet as they come and seems great around other dogs. We have not seen any posts about her being missing, so presume she too was another one abandoned out by the shelter. See more about her at: adogsnewlife.org/camiseta Adoption process: Our rescue is located near Bucerias Mexico. We use Petfinder to reach a greater audience for our dogs and adopt the majority of our dogs to the US and Canada. The first step is to submit an application on our website here: https://www.adogsnewlife.org/adopt Once we receive your application, we will review it and may contact you for more information or to conduct a home check. If your application is approved, we collaborate with flight angels flying from Puerto Vallarta to destinations close to where the dog is posted as available. Adopters can meet these flight angels at the airport and take the pup home. (We can provide more detailed information about this process to adopters upon request.) Before requesting adoption fees or the signing of the adoption contract we give adopters a few days to a week to spend time with their new pup. If for some reason things were not to work out we kindly ask that the adopters foster the dog until we find a suitable home for them. A few notes about our pups: - Most of our shelter dogs are accustomed to being outside and free-roaming unless otherwise stated. Some may have been in homes before and could be potty trained but in a new environment they would need easy access to the outside and be re-acclimated to their designated potty area. We cannot guarantee a pup is potty trained unless they are with a foster or surrendered to us with noted training. - We can send more videos/pictures of our dogs. Unfortunately, we cannot do live videos at our shelter. - Our dogs are given de-wormer, tested negative for heartworm, (unless otherwise noted) are up to date on required vaccines for travel, and receive regular flea and tick treatment. They have also been evaluated by our vet who has provided any necessary medical care upon rescue. -Last, but not least, we LOVE our dogs and we hope you do too. They have hearts of gold and so much love to give. Please be kind and patient with them; they are worth it! It takes time to adjust to new people and new places. Please follow us on IG and FB and consider adopting as we have over 160 dogs and the shelter is full.
