My Story

Cain is looking for a new home where he can relax and be himself! We (FFOCAS) are helping his current family find his forever home. :-) Cain is smart, easily trained, and super affectionate and cuddly. This boy loves to snuggle on the couch or bed with his people. He is excited and happy to meet new people. He will approach in a way suggesting that he is trying to be submissive, ... yet also has a sense of humor. He will roll onto his back, offering his belly. But if you encourage him and get a little playful with him, he'll do some zoomies and then lean on you with a little more confidence. He seems to be the kind of dog who is very clued into the emotions of his people. Cain's kryptonite is kids. He is nervous around some kids and scared of others. His human family has grown over the past few years, and it has become very clear that he is not comfortable around the kids. He seems to be very conflicted about the kids -- loving them but worried about their high-energy ways and really wanting to be as close to mom as possible, which is hard given the youngsters. Could he continue to "get by"? Yes, probably, but his family knows that he deserves to be in a quieter, less chaotic, less crowded home -- one with no kids. A home with another pet or two may be a good fit, but not a house full of them. This handsome guy can be energetic, but he knows how to couch potato as well. He loves to shred things and is fond of toys that have a hidden extra toy inside. He also enjoys playing fetch and running around in open spaces. His manners/obedience are mostly very good, but his leash walking could use work. Like many dogs, he will bark at anyone walking past the fence or window and will get excited and sometimes bark at other dogs while on leash. Cain would probably do best with a large, fenced yard; in a home with no fenced yard, his adopter would need to be committed to getting him out multiple times per day. Cain has done well meeting and hanging out with other dogs, though he has only met dogs smaller than himself. He is currently living with cats and has generally done very well with the kitties, sometimes playing with them, respecting the "Queen Kitty," and sleeping and hanging out near his feline friends. In recent months, after the arrival of his newest human sibling, Cain has become increasingly nervous and growly at the people and cats of the home. This is not who he is, and his family knows that this change is a sign of his discomfort in their home. While they have worked for years to give Cain time and space to himself away from the kiddos, the behavior change brought on by the new baby's arrival has prompted them to find their beloved pupper a home where he will feel at ease. This boy is about 5 years old and 53 lbs. He is believed to be a German shepherd/greyhound mix. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and overall healthy. He does have seasonal allergies (not food allergies). Apoquel works best, though Benadryl and medicated baths are helpful too. Cain is house trained and crate trained. Interested?
