Button has had some formal training. He can sit, come, and stay on command, and he knows a few cute tricks that he'd love to show you in person. As soon as he sees treats come out, he will sit pretty until he gets one. Buttons is house trained. He does not do well in a crate, though, and should not go to a forever family that will use a crate regularly.
Button has done very well with his foster family's resident dogs. He has blended into the pack nicely in a very short period of time. Small children make him nervous, however, so we would not recommend a home with tots.
If you're looking for a little bundle of happiness who like to cuddle, ask about Button today. We're sure this cutie won't be with us for long.
Notes from our partner shelter: Meet Button! I'll bet you can tell where he got his name...he is cute as a button!
Button was rescued from a high kill shelter in AR where his time was up. So, down swooped a kindhearted volunteer and plucked him right up. After going to the vet and having 7 teeth removed he is feeling great and ready to embark on his new life!
Button is full grown at 7 1/2 lbs and won't get an bigger. Due to his small size he will not be able to go to a home with little children. Button is due to arrive in NE to go into foster care on 4/26/2008. Apply today!
Hi My name is Button. Im a 5 year old male purebred Pom, weighing about 8lbs(fluffy hair included). My foster mom thinks that someone was really mean to me in the past. It takes me alittle while (less than a day) to warm up to you and make sure your arent going to hurt me like my last humans did. I dont like people lunging at me, thats why I need an adult family only. If you give me alittle time, Im as sweet as can be.
I havent made any accidents in the house at all. At first I didnt like to be picked up but now Im ok with it. I like to sit on the couch and watch TV with my foster mom and I really love the pets.I need to be on a leash harness if you dont have a fenced yard and even if you do, keep me on a leash in the beginning as wide open spaces Im unfamiliar with make me alittle nervous.
I hate being in a crate and why should I be in one anyway? Im completely house trained. I walk up the doggie steps and sleep with my foster mom in bed at night. With all that fur I do get hot easily.
Ive had no problems with my moms resident dogs, big or small. I really am a sweet little guy, once you get to know me and I want to trust again and this time have someone love me the way I love you All known information is listed here. This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.
FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.
CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.
SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.
SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.
HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.
PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
