My Story

Butchie is now at Camp Bow Wow in Portland, ME. What a GREAT dog this guy is!

Butchie is a very fun dog. He loves to play ball and swim (as long as his people are in the water with him). Butchie enjoys toys but will merrily de-stuff soft toys, he will need some pretty sturdy ones. He is fully housetrained and crate trained, though he'd MUCH rather be out of it with his people.

New to living in a home, Butchie will need a bit of guidance as far as house manners goes. He will counter surf and get into the trash, though he's pretty good about not chewing inappropriate things. He is good about sticking around when outside with his people, but might wander a bit out of curiosity. He comes racing back when called though.

Butchie loves other dogs and kids and would love a home with either or both...come meet Butchie today! You won't be sorry!!

Butchie is marked URGENT because our partner shelter in Arkansas is full!! Butchie has a warm and generous heart. He is in with 2 big males and a female and he is kind to all. sharing his food and toys, even rawhides!! Please help Butchie, he has been at the shelter too long and is starting to loose hope

Butchie was rescued by our partner shelter in Arkansas from a high kill shelter on his last day. He is in with other dogs and shares his food and toys. He loves to play. He collects his toys and puts them on top of his food bowl!!

Hes a great boy, very friendly and smart. He learned to walk on a leash in one day. , He has been around 7 and 10 year old children and did fine.

He has been tested heart worm negative and is a nice size at 50lbs and shouldnt get any bigger, Hes about a year old. Butchie has alot of energy and personality and is looking far a loving family to call his own.

From the dogs perspective: My perfect home would be: _Butchie is very smart and learns fast,! He is in with a medium sized female dog and is very good, sharing his food bowl and toys. He likes to collect all his toys and put them on top of his food bowl, He LOVES people and gets so excited that he used to jump up but with the word DOWN!, he has learned not to. He needs someone to guide him as he has probably never had anyone that cared about him. He’s got s sweet and loving heart and would make an excellent companion

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
