This is Buddy. He is four years old and a very big boy. His foster mom thinks he is exactly like “Buddy” from the movie Elf. He is sweet, lovable, happy, friendly and just like the movie; he has absolutely no idea that he is a bigger than other dogs.
Buddy’s previous owner was elderly and became unable to care for him but he was very much loved. He came to us a bit on the portly side but with exercise and monitored food he is now almost back to his bikini body. His ideal weight will be around 37-40 pounds, so he will still be big Boston. He just loves to be around people and we have yet to find a person who hasn’t instantly fallen in love with this love bug. Buddy is crate trained, house trained, no separation issues, absolutely loves taking walks and is great on a leash. He loves people and other dogs…just an all around gentle soul. He will need some work on his manners as he still jumps up and will beg for food but he is very smart and will learn quickly.
He will chase birds and bunnies so a fenced in yard or an owner who will keep him on a leash at all times is a must. Stairs were a very strange concept for him but with some training, losing a few pounds and a lot of (low fat) treats he flies up and down them but he may be a little hesitant with them in new home. With regular exercise he has become a an energetic dog but he will need an owner who will make sure he exercises every day to keep his newly svelte body but he is still not yet able to extremely strenuous activities. Buddy wasn’t allowed on the furniture at his previous home so he will not jump up with you, but we are sure with some coaxing he would certainly learn he can join you for a snooze.
