My Story

WE HAVE AN APPLICATION PENDING NOW FOR BRUNO UPDATE: BRUNO JUST GRADUATED BEGINNERS OBEDIENCE CLASS!!! His certificate is hanging proudly on foster mom's wall - when will it hang in his forever home??? Bruno is a sweet and affectionate 3 year old male Bichon Frise. He came to Speaking of Dogs from a puppy mill and has shown that he can warm up to people almost immediately. Bruno has been vetted and neutered and has had a dental. He came to his foster home looking a little scraggly but has since been groomed so he can now show off his adorable underbite in style. The groomer even said that he was a star and had no problems with the clippers or the dryer. Bruno has no body handling issues and loves nothing more than to be cuddled and loved. He is a curious and happy little guy who shows off his good mood by doing a happy dance routine. Bruno is enthusiastically learning basic obedience behaviours such as ‘come’ and ‘sit’. So far he has proven that he is not a high energy dog and he is fairly quiet, barking only when really revved up and excited. He enjoys meandering walks, so he would not be a good match for a power walker or hiker! Bruno does not seem to have any problems with children but so far has not had a great deal of exposure to them. The little guy is intimidated by some dogs, especially larger ones, but he loves his long legged hound-dog housemate. Bruno resource guards very slightly around other dogs, but it is very easily managed. There is no problem with people around “his things”. He accompanies one of his foster parents on group dog walks, and enjoys these walks when he is matched with dogs who don’t scare him. He does get frightened around loud traffic noises such as trucks and ambulance sirens. Bruno is becoming more relaxed on the street, but major streets currently are not on the list of walking routes. Housetraining is coming along very well, but he still has a bit of work before he’s 100% reliable. Bruno would like to be adopted by someone who loves to be loved by their dog! He is happiest on a lap or snuggled in bed. Because he is still easily frightened by noises and fast movement near him, he needs an owner who will have as much patience on walks as he has loving for them. When frightened, Bruno will stand still until the perceived danger has passed - which can make some walks feel a bit slow! Bruno is learning that these scary things aren’t really that bad, but he needs a bit of help (and chicken treats!) to continue his progress.
