My Story

I recently found a pit mix in California that had been hit by a car WEEKS prior and left for dead by uncaring "owners" who did not even bother to take him into the vet. This poor dog was just laying there in agony. They surrendered the dog to me without hesitation, or care, and I immediately took him to a vet. Not only did he have a severely broken rear leg but was also covered in scars, gashes, ticks, foxtails...you name it. What is most remarkable about "Bruce" (I named him) is that he has an amazing spirit despite his many traumas. He is a very trusting, affectionate, and mellow guy. Because he is SO worth it, I covered all of his medical bills. It is of UTMOST importance to me that I find him the perfect home. His leg should ultimately be fine; he had a plate attached to the bone by an orthopedic specialist. He is healing nicely, but there will be a 4-6 week period of crating while you are out and no jumping or playing with other dogs for 3 months while the bone fills in. Please think about adopting Bruce. I had him neutered, vaccinated, heart worm checked, and thoroughly examined. Other than the leg injury, he is healthy. He is a young, less than two years old, and all light orange with white paws and perky ears that flop over on the ends. His facial expression will melt your heart. To have endured this pain day after day and be so loving and grateful for the touch and comfort --well it is simply a profound thing. Please contact me if you are interested in this pit rescue. I drove him out here and will not let him go until I find the right home. He is an alpha male and would thrive best in a home without cats or other alpha dogs. He gets along with submissive dogs but can be possessive, so a one dog home would most likely be best for him. I recently have discovered that he is not "dog aggressive," as I had thought. Because of his injury I had been unable to observe his behavior off-leash. He definitely cannot be with cats BUT he has befriended two dogs without incident. It appears that he only growls at first to set a boundary, probably because he is injured. My main concern is the fragility of the leg. Right now he is at a dogsitter's house where she crates him if he gets too playful with the two pups, a boxer and a French Bulldog. Apparently, they have been kissing each other through the crate. Bruce is an awesome dog. He is good with all people and kids. Inside this animal is a heart of gold -- I knew it the moment I saw him. Serious inquiries only!
