Brownie loves to hang out with his foster mom. He takes every opportunity he can to sit on her lap, or hop on the bed with her. He gets along well with the family's resident dogs, but he's been so attention-starved, that he might relish the chance to be an only dog, too.
Brownie is house trained, and can sit and come on command. He loves toys, especially squeaky ones.
Because Brownie has had some unpleasant experiences with humans during his short life so far, he is a bit wary of strangers. For this reason, his foster mom does not recommend that he go to a home with small children. Brownie's biggest hurdle is learning to trust that new people aren't going to hurt him. His ears hurt for so long that he began to associate people with pain. But once he learns to trust you, he is a wonderful little dog.
Brownie has come a long way in a short time with his trust issues. His foster mom believes that a calm, patient, dog savvy person will have no problems helping this adorable young dog become the great companion he wants to be.
Brownie's lovely fancy coat does need regular grooming. The hair around his ears will need to be kept trimmed. He's a bit touchy from his recent, VERY painful ordeal, so his adopters will need to be mindful of that.
Notes from March 2008: Brownie the cocker spaniel is a little shy and has not been treated well, he had bilateral ear infections that his owner didn't want to pay to treat so asked her vet to euthanize him. The vet had him signed over to her and asked us to find a foster for him. So, here he is, beautiful, vetted, loving and ready for a new home that will be ready and willing to always keep his ears trimmed and clean. This is a normal Cocker maintenance issue and needs to stay clean.
His foster Mom says: "I LOVE HIM!!!".
He has been neutered him, fixed his hernia, and his ears fixed. He had severe bi-lateral ear infections (which ruptured both his ear drums) but he is now healthy and he is not deaf or damaged!
He is very lovable, likes to follow his people, sleeps in his crate, likes his crate, is housetrained. In his previous home, he lived happily with a 9 yr old boy, loved the husband, loved to go on walks, lived in harmony with a cat who played with him and loves to play with other dogs.
Due to his serious neglect and untreated ears, he was in very severe pain for a long time and very head shy due to the amount of constant pain he was in. His ears were so infected that both ear drums were ruptured. After alot of care by the vet that refused to euthanize him, he is fine now. BUT, because he was in pain for so long, he grew very scared of kids touching his head and a little nippy in defense of the pain. Because of this, we do not want to place him with kids under 14. He lived happily with a 9 yr old, but was a little nippy with the 3 yr old touching him. I seriously doubt he would be this way again, and it was just the extreme pain and fear making him defensive, but we have to be careful where he is placed.
He will make a great pet!!!!!!
