My Story

Brandy is a reddish brown little girl that weighs appx 13 pounds. She was found on Hwy 64B on 12/30/2007. Brandy is very lovable, really likes kids and needs a good warm home to cuddle in. She is appx 7 months old and we feel will not get much bigger than she is now. Please help us find her a home. 1-23-08 Brandy is with us now. She continues to be loveable and gentle. However, she and Mollly (dog) do not get along well. Molly is old and a bit grouchy and Brandy does not like to be growled at. Brandy does not bother the cats nor the hens. She comes when she is called. She has stayed within the boundry of the yard: she has not run into the field or the ditch. She seems to want to be near us at all times. She is also very neat in her pen. Brandy stands on her hind legs when she wants attention, but she does not jump up on us. She is very well-behaved. She would be a perfect addition to a loving home. 1-24 The cold seems to have invigorated Brandy. She runs in circles and then she will run 'straight out'. She will jump, like she is jumping over something, and continue to run. For a small gal, she is fast. However, she comes when she is called. Brandy is a happy pup and would make a great companion. 1-28 Brandy helped Bill with yard work this weekend. She loves to run in the yard, but so far, she has not gone outside the 'boundries'. She does not chase the chickens nor the cat. However, she and Molly cannot be together. Brandy continues to be very neat in her pen...food remains in the bowl and one spot for the restroom. She is a gentle pup and loves to have her belly rubbed. What a precious companion for a loving home 1-29 The chickens were just too much of a temptation. Brandy chased poor Jo-Jo all around the yard. Finally Jo got under a shrub and I was able to get Brandy before she got Jo-Jo. Needless to say, we all had a good work-out and Jo and I had a great fright. Brandy just thought it was a marvelous game. Now Brandy and the hens will not be able to have 'yard time at the same time. Brandy needs a home without hens...or a home with someone who knows how to keep a precious pup from chasing the chicks. Brandy has such a sunny disposition. She needs a loving home. 2-4-08 Brandy continues to be a kind and gentle dog with the humans with whom she comes into contact. She also continues to be neat in her pen....food stays in the bowl and one area for her 'barhroom'. She enjoys a good run, yet she continues to stay within the boundries of the yard and she comes when she is called. Brandy was a real trouper with her last set of shots and she took her monthly heartguard with no problem. She needs someone who will give her the love and attention that she deserves.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter.
